Shield Deprecation Policy
Feature Deprecation Policy
When a feature in Sysdig Shield is scheduled for deprecation, Sysdig provides 12 months advance notice before the feature is removed. This notice period is intended to give you sufficient time to evaluate, plan, and transition to recommended alternatives, when available.
Sysdig communicates deprecation notices through:
- Official documentation, such as the Release Notes.
- The Sysdig UI
- Support notifications
- Direct communication, such as email, for high-impact changes
Once a feature reaches its end-of-support date, it will be removed. We strongly encourage you to migrate to supported alternatives before the deprecation period ends.
Pre-Deprecation Phase
The pre-deprecation phase is a period of 12 months from the date of the deprecation notice. During this period, prepare to migrate away from the version of Sysdig Shield to be deprecated. During this period, Sysdig ensures provides:
- Standard support (bug fixes, security patches) for deprecated components.
- No new features or enhancements for the deprecated feature.
- Future enhancements focus on the replacement.
- Updated documentation with deprecation warnings and migration guidance.
Post-Deprecation Phase
In the three months after a version of Sysdig Shield is deprecated, Sysdig provides:
- Access to shield images with deprecated features via Docker repositories.
- The associated Helm chart is removed from active registries but remains archived.
- All remaining documentation, including migration guides and scripts, is removed by the end of this 3-month period.
